Randall Hicks Newsletter #2 THE BABY GAME)

Greetings!

Man, I'm really bad at this self-publicity stuff. Writing
mysteries is easy compared to writing about myself, so I'll
just jabber on like an idiot. Nothing new there, right?

I've been busy putting the finishing touches on a
non-fiction how-to adoption book for Penguin/Putnam. It's
pretty boring and I find myself itching to get back to
writing mysteries. I sneak away and write a few Toby Dillon
pages when I can't control myself.

I'm doing something odd: I'm writing the 3rd and 4th books
in the series at the same time. I couldn't decide between
two ideas I really liked and thought, what the heck, I'll
just jot down a few ideas. Before I knew it, I was in full
speed on them both, back and forth. We will see how it
goes.

I hope to have some news on when the second book in the
series, BABY CRIMES, will be out, but not quite yet. Thanks
for your patience and I'm sorry for the delay.

It has been an amazing year for THE BABY GAME. First it won
the Gumshoe Award for Best Debut Novel. Then it was named
as a finalist for the Anthony, Barry and Macavity Awards,
also in the Best First Novel category. All three will be
given out at Bouchercon, so needless to say I'm quite
honored and excited.

I'd like to salute my fellow nominees. Here they are:

THE ANTHONY AWARD (Best Debut Novel)

THE BABY GAME, Randall Hicks
DIE A LITTLE, Megan Abbott
IMMORAL, Brian Freeman

See what I mean! Quite a year! If you will be at
Bouchercon, I hope you will say hello, and e-mail me if you
want a hand-delivered avocado while there, grown
organically in Toby Dillon's orchard, right from the Toby
Tree, in fact. (Although for some reason the fruit sticker
on it says "Hicks Family Orchard.")

Be well everybody, and thanks so much for signing up for my
newsletter list!
