Some Self Questions Before Going Into Adoption
Before going thru the process of adopting a child, there are numerous factors to be considered. Not only is it a tedious process, but it could also be a stressful one. There are also a lot of reasons why people turn to adoption. Either due to infertility, loss of children, or either because they just want to.
There are numerous questions an adoptive parent should ask themselves before adopting a child. First, how do they feel about not being genetically related to a child? Will it pose problems with regard to emotional and psychological care?
They should be prepared to provide the child with equal care if they have their own children to start with. Deciding to adopt is not only a process of papers but also an acceptance of responsibility and love.
Another question would be how will they deal with the emotional stress the child has gone through? Are they prepared to help the child answer these questions when there is a need for answers?
Most of these children underwent much stress before they were in the care of orphanages or care centers. It becomes additional work for adoptive parents to provide extra effort in comforting and understanding these children.
And finally one important question is, are they willing to deal with birthparent issues? How will they interact with birthparents in the future and with the child himself?
The child will always in the future try to seek out his or her birth parents. The emotional attachment to the adoptive parents may be solid but it is different with birth parents. The adoptive parents should be ready to accept this fact and be prepared to help the child. Whatever the question may be for the adoptive parent must be prepared to answer these if they are to adopt a child.
